my 9-month old niece Chloe woke me up this morning. such an adorable little kid! this was pre-caffeine ingestion, but my good mood was otherwise restored. how can you not feel good when a two-toothed, smiling toddler is staring at your face?

we went to the debut of my cousin last night. it was held at the poolside of hillsborough, and her theme was hawaiian. much as i would've loved to have gone there in a grass skirt and pearly shells, i was concerned for the wellbeing of the guests...and the reputation of my cousin. i did not want to be known as the skeleton in the family closet. and so i went wearing a floral top, low-slung jeans, and 3-inch pointy heels. sorry, but that's as hawaiian as i could get.
*****
i think i'm generally a very nice person, but may i just make one teeny comment about the debut last night? i had to sit through 18 roses, 18 candles, 18 gifts AND 18 shots. WTF?!?! i mean, seriously, why torture your guests? and of course, each of these people had something to say, so i had to listen to 72 wishes/greetings/messages. and it was the same shit, 72 times over! and what's with the emcee? is this how kids talk nowadays? am i that old??? ok, i'll have to stop now. i did say one teeny comment. in fairness, my cousin looked beautiful...

i'm feeling (slightly) better about work. we had a meeting last friday, and i (finally) see an end to the endless hiring and simultaneous trainings. or at least the pacing is much more relaxed so that my trainors and i have time to breathe. yesssss, there is a god.
*****
i have a MUCH needed 3-week vacation coming up this september, which i have been sooo looking forward to. haven't had a single day of vacation the entire year. do i love this bank or what?! [note to the reader: the previous statement must be uttered with a hint of sarcasm, please] anyway, citi is rolling out the training academy and regional trainors will be flying in for a 1-week training. you know when the rollout is? right smack in the middle of my supposedly 3-week vacation. paking shet!!! so my boss is now telling me to take one week first, then defer my two weeks till october. paking shet all over again!!!

i got bored yesterday and started counting my shoes. i actually have 23 pairs. wow. but it's amazing that one can never really have enough shoes. i have such a shoe fetish, that i buy shoes first, then i buy the outfit to go with it. bad, bad!
*****
what do i do about wedding shoes? do i have them custom made? or should i just buy something off the rack? i'm thinking silver or white. leaning towards silver though. definitely, 3 inches at least. nothing less. have pity on my toes, you say? oh, they're used to it. vanity over form, dah-ling!!!
*****
funniest thing happened. last friday, i decided to wear flats to work to give my feet a rest. i felt sooo short! but the funny thing is, the day after, my leg muscles ached because i wore flats! i guess my feet aren't used to not being on tiptoe. wierd, but funny!

you do realize that the BER months are slowly creeping in? in just about 3 weeks, bam! it's september. christmas is just around the corner. santa has probably sent out his suit to the cleaners already. and now i'm wondering, with all wedding expenses, do i have christmas shopping money? the answer to that is a resounding "NO!"
*****
i'm wondering again. would it be alright to send this message to our friends this christmas?
dear friend,
as you probably already know, we are getting married
on april 30, 2005. wedding preparations are in full swing, as are the
expenses. if you are invited, then please expect to see your
christmas gift amidst the wedding celebrations. however, if you are not
invited, know that the money which would've gone into your gift was properly allocated into flowers, guest plates, invitations, souvenirs, wedding cake, gowns, etc. if you need a receipt, do let us know so we may provide you a copy. wishing you a blessed holiday season!
sincerely,
roland & tin

why The Schmucks?

- We've decided to revolutionize the term. It's now a term of endearment. Before Roland & Tin became "Roland & Tin," we were very good friends with a dysfunctional sense of humor. I called him a schmuck, he called me a schmuck. Thus, The Schmucks were born. Now we're on our way to becoming Mr. & Mrs. Schmuck. Ain't life grand? -
